Craig Davis Pinson is a composer, improviser, and musicologist born and currently based in Mexico City. He composes music for the screen as well as the concert hall, and is an active member of the experimental improvisation community. Most recently, he composed the score for “No Me Sigas”, the first Spanish-language film by Blumhouse Productions. His chamber music has been performed by ensembles such as International Contemporary Ensemble, Spektral Quartet, Ensemble Dal Niente, ~Nois Saxophone Quartet, and members of the Civic Orchestra at Chicago’s Symphony Center.
Craig holds a doctoral degree in composition and music technology from Northwestern University, with a cognate in musicology, and a bachelor of music in composition from The Boston Conservatory at Berklee. His doctoral dissertation explores the relationship between sound design, music, and aesthetic politics in contemporary Mexican cinema. Craig has been adjunct professor in musicology at Columbia College Chicago, lecturer in popular music studies and composition at Northwestern University, and guitar/ensembles faculty at Old Town School of Folk Music.
